“The music, the vibe, the location and the crazy people” – OVERLOAD

This episode of the Maharetta Records series continues with producer OVERLOAD who we caught up with to tell us his story to pair with his sounds on radiOzora.

– What were some of the events or experiences that set you off on this journey?

– The music, the vibe, the location and the crazy people from the first Ibiza open air parties I experienced. Feeling free in the woods drinking from the magic bottle that I’m still waiting to come down from. Every time I go to a psytrance festival or party it inspires me and I’m more convinced that this is what I want to do.

– How was your alter ego born? What stands behind the name of your project?

– Well it was always hard for me to find a name, my computer was not so powerful and it used to overload. So Overload Music was born.

– Who have your greatest teachers been, your greatest inspirations? Musically speaking, who has had the greatest influence on your musical soundscapes?

– I listen to many different types of music for Inspiration, actually I don’t listen to much Psytrance when I’m out of the studio or at a party.

Instead I listen to a variety of other genre’s, for example Rock, Reggae, metal, classic jazz, such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Santana, Rage Against The Machine, The Meters, The Prodigy, Amon Tobin, Milles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Ott, Trentemoller.

People In the early Trance scene like : T.I.P. Records, Spun, Neurobiotic and Etnica sparked my Initial passion. And early artists like Psysex, GMS, Panick, Etnica, Dinopsaras, Earthling, Pixel, and Bushman all captured my imagination.

However nowadays my tastes have changed slightly and I enjoy the more modern formula. For example, Ajja, Virtual Light, Filterheads, Samadhi, Hypnoise & Tristan are all rocking it. My greatest teachers to date have been Earthling, Samadhi, Mad, and Anarkick, with more collaborations planned for the future.

– Which one of your releases/tracks are the most characteristic of your sounds or stand the closest to you for some reason?

– Inside a simulation. I think its a cool mix of styles, and can be played night or day time. It’s hard, groovy with some melody and tonal characters, not just FX’s, which for me its pretty essential. It’s due for release on Maharetta Records on the 2nd January.

– What projects are you involved in? (Or would love to experiment with?)

– I have a new project with Samadhi and another with the MAD. We produced a few tracks together, so right now it seems like a natural progression. In the future I would also like to make a collaboration track with Hypnoise.

– Who do you think are the most cutting-edge newest sound makers in the scene? Who are your newest discoveries?

– For me right now the last Virtual Light tracks and collaborations I have listened too are crazy, Filterheads are also one of my newest discoveries, I’ve been following them from the beginning and they keep getting better and better. Earthling is always renewing his style, continuing to innovate, including his collaboration with other artist are killer.

– Scene at home? Most memorable gigs, experiences?

– Well the Ibiza trance scene its almost over it seems, open air parties are finished and not so many clubs want psytrance. Some warriors are still trying to keep the scene alive, so we have some smaller parties once a month roughly, which I am happy to Involved with occasionally.

Chillout Planet was a cool experience and I also had the opportunity to travel to Russia and make some more music with my mate Samadhi. Then Synesthesia party at Club Charlotte was killer too, they had and amazing sound system. Its a shame they have close doors. Finally my last gig at the Maharetta label party in Italy where I met some of the other member from the label was a nice experience.

– Musically speaking what’s still on your bucket list? If it wasn’t this, what would it be?

– Full Studio acoustic conditioning and and comfortable chair it essential, It will be nice to have a flatter reference for mixing new tunes.

– What are your other passions in life?

– My other passions included gardening and travelling.

– What are you working on at present?

– I just started to make an Overload album, which is really exciting and also some more collaborations with Samadhi and M.A.D, which will be rolling out over the coming year.

– What are you looking forward to the most?

– Now that I have more time I want to focus and produce the debut Overload album, with a focus on improving my production skill and sound quality.
