It's all about music: Comebacks and new talents
Psytrance pioneers Electric Universe and Spacecat return with fresh releases this year while new talents are rising in the Progressive and Chill-out terrains. Music recommendations for April.
Have you heard that ELECTRIC UNIVERSE is in the works of a new album? Legendary project of Boris Blenn recently got a three-track EP called SOLSTICE released as a teaser of the forthcoming full-length album on Electric Universe Records. That trademark uplifting Full-on sound is perfectly delivered on the new tracks of course, and as always spiced up with retro goa vibes Electric Universe-style. Before he is back to rock the main dancefloor in Ozora again to ease the waiting we can also listen to a live set from last summer on his Soundcloud page.
The new Iboga Trance digital release PRIME TIME features SYMBOLIC, latest addition to this years Ozora Festival line up. The Israeli duo has already released a collaboration track with Liquid Soul earlier on Iboga and this time joined forces with Ace Ventura as well. As one would expect the versus track ‘Prime Time’ turned out to be a banging progressive hit with tight rythms and playful grooviness. And just as much strict and groovy is the second part of the EP, the Symbolic duo’s version of Vertical Mode’s earlier hit ‘Lazer Shot’.
A fresh new downtempo electronica duo is rising from Hungary: YARN released their debut album last month on Para Halu’s label Psylife. The guys are not newcomers in the scene, having been produced faster psychedelic sounds earlier, but only founded the Chill-out project in 2011 to create relaxing musical journeys that lift the spirit and clear the mind. The sound is mature and the themes are deeply meditative on the debut album called YARNIA. It features 10 beautifully arranged downtempo tracks ranging from beatlessly swirling ambient to soulful dub and tribal chill-out sounds. Most recommended for meditation.
After more than three years of silence SPACECAT returns, surprisingly not with Full-on but with Progressive on Iboga Records. After collaborating with Infected Mushroom, Alien Project and more legendary Full-on masters in the early days and producing Psytrance since the end of 90’s, Spacecat now worked together with Progressive duo Lish. The EP features ‘Dark Horizon’ and ‘Gog & Magog’, both versus tracks with Lish. The poetic titles hide crazy psychedelic electro tracks with hypnotic progressive grooves. Not clear yet if that is going to be the new sound of Spacecat in the future but definitely an interesting comeback and worth to check out.
