ASSIGNMENT FROM GREAT SPIRIT

Those of you who have been at O.Z.O.R.A. probably know about our much respected Wisdom Elders, Dr. Sally Torkos and Prof. Béla Torkos. You may have even taken part in their Wheel of Wisdom course or have seen them in the Dome on Opening Day as Omingbirdwoman and the Wizard of OzOra performing some of their magic and Oming the festival into life each year. The Prophet is honored to welcome Dr. Sally among its contributors, sharing her vast experience, knowledge and wisdom with all of us in this series based around all aspects of Universal Consciousness and the guidance of Great Spirit.

By Dr. Sally Torkos (Clinical and Research Psychology PhD with 30 year clinical practice)

A teacher of mine once told me that he received “Assignment’s from Great Spirit.”  When I asked what he meant by that, he said he heard Great Spirit telling him to do a beneficial task for others and himself.  He was trained in the Huichol Indian tradition and the Shaman who trained him also received such assignments. The particular assignment he had that I participated in was a pilgrimage to a holy mountain, sacred to the Iss’-Aw’te native California tribe, named Akoo Yet.  He was assigned to lead 12 annual pilgrimages and I participated in the last four of them.

Participating in those pilgrimages changed my life and I too, began to receive Assignment’s from Great Spirit.  Before I go much further, I must give you a brief explanation of my understanding of Great Spirit.  Great Spirit bypasses all complication by being genderless, formless and not attached to any religion, therefore available to everyone.  Great Spirit has been recognized by many indigenous peoples worldwide as the consciousness of the universe. Consider Great Spirit to be Universal Consciousness.

Assignments can come in many forms, such as: a recurring internal message; a request from another person; through a dream; while meditating; or a sudden insight that leads to action.  They can have the purpose of evolutionary or beneficial self-development as well as for others.  The assignment that lead my husband Béla (Professor Béla) and myself to O.Z.O.R.A. began in 2010 as a request from an Ozorian for us to teach about the Native American Medicine Wheel which has since evolved into the Wheel of Wisdom (WoW) Program.*  When we agreed to create the WoW program, we knew it was for a crucial purpose, though we were required by Great Spirit to only commit to seven consecutive years of teaching.  After the first seven years blew by; we received numerous requests for us commit to another seven years; we are now approaching our tenth year.

Writing articles for the O.Z.O.R.A. PROPHET is another assignment from Great Spirit and this introduction is the beginning of monthly (perhaps more) articles from Dr. Sally.  The content of the articles will parallel the purpose of the Wheel of Wisdom program: to promote the evolution of human consciousness.  This is the essential assignment from Great Spirit.  It is only through increasing consciousness that humans can evolve instead of destroy themselves.

Philosopher and Metaphysician Bernard Lonergan describes the essence of Being as the “Detached, disinterested, and unrestricted desire to know.”   Such human beings desire to know (among other things): who they are, their purpose in life, and their place in the Universe.  The Prophet articles will be designed to inspire you to want to know these things and give you some guidelines for how to obtain such knowledge.  So, dear readers, stay tuned!  Something both entertaining and inspirational will soon be arriving to the Prophet on a regular basis. Perhaps you will find yourself evolving just by reading and also begin to hear assignments from Great Spirit for your own benefit as well as all the rest of us.
