CHRONOMATIC – ‘Temporal Paradox’ out on Purple Hexagon
Chronomatic, the newest project from Russian artist, Evgeny Martynov, also known as Sorrowmurk, has just released his debut EP on Purple Hexagon. Get yourself pumped for his Temporal Paradox vibes with this audioillustrated interview.
What were some of the key events that got you involved in psytrance?
Well, it was the year of 2003 when I met Slava Dissociactive. I was 23 years old and I was working in a music store in the center of Moscow. I had everything to make music: synths, speakers, audio interfaces. I was very interested in the process of making psytrance and we decided to make a track together. After this we did a lot of music which was released on Crystal Matrix Records, Acidance Records, Bom Shanka Music. Also we did a first Dissociactive album together, called Blockout. In 2008 I left the project and got back to music in 2012 with my solo project – Sorrowmurk. And in 2018 I started making music as Chronomatic.
How was your alterego born? What stands behind the name of your project?
In 2017 I reread the book from the great British writer, Herbert Wells, ‘The Time Machine’. This book inspired me to create my side project and an EP about traveling in time. As you know my first EP was released on 9th May on Purple Hexagon Records called ‘Temporal Paradox’.
Your most ‘psychedelic’ or life-changing experience so far?
For sure it is the birth of my son. He changed my life fully.
Have you experienced any noticeable changes in the scene since you became a part of it?
In my opinion, 10 years ago artists in the psytrance scene had more possibilities to experiment. Now less, because the scene has become more commercial. But it is not bad because the quality of sound has increased.
Who do you think are the most cutting-edge newest sound makers in the scene? Who are your newest discoveries?
I always try to check out young artists in the psytrance scene. They always bring some news in sound.
Which one of your releases/tracks are the most characteristic of your sound or stand the closest to you for some reason?
Very hard question. I always try to make music in different styles. I can only say which of my releases are my favourites. For sure it is the track ‘Panic Attack’ from the Sorrowmurk album titled ‘Identity Disorder’ and ‘Causal Loop’ from the Chronomatic EP ‘Temporal Paradox’.
What are you working on at present? Upcoming?
Now I’m working on my second Chronomatic EP and in the background I ‘m making some collabs with my friends for an album.
Side-projects? Experiments with new sounds and genres?
As I said before I have another project in a more dark style of music called Sorrowmurk. Before Chronomatic it was my main project. Now it is for fun and experiments.
What are some of the greatest challenges you face? What are the rewards?
In most cases it’s lack of time for music. It’s not possible for me to spend all my time on music fore some reasons. But when I do, it makes me happy. I think this is a reward.
If it wasn’t psytrance, what would it be?
I think it would be synth-pop with female vocals, I love it for sure!
