PHANATIC – “Peace, Love, Unity, Respect”
Another dose of audioillustration, this time focusing on Israeli producer and Dj, Phanatic.
How did your psytrance journey begin?
My brother was a psytrance fan back in ’96, I was always listening to the music coming from his room and I never really attached any importance to it… The first 2 tracks he revealed to me that put me into the psytrance world were ‘Spiritual Healing’ by Juan Verdera and ‘Power of Celtic’ by Shiva Shidapu, one of my favourites to this day.
Who have your greatest teachers been, your greatest inspirations? Musically speaking, who has had the greatest influence on your musical soundscapes?
I listened to Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode, Daft Punk and have always been musicaly inspired by these guys… Astrix & Infected Mushrooms helped me too through the years as well.
How has your sound, your taste in music developed throughout the years?
Back then in 2000 I started to produce Nitzhonot with the “almighty” DOS software, Impulse Tracker. The years passed and my productions upgraded to “full-on”, and I can say those years were my most massive and productive ones, as a producer and Dj playing around the world. The last few years my music has developed to a psytrance/progressive kind of style, very mature music… I see it as if my music and I were growing up together from being very “childish” to very mature
Which one of your releases/tracks are the most characteristic of your sounds or stand the closest to you for some reason?
My track ‘Peace, Love, Unity, Respect’… it might sound catchy… but I really connect to this beautiful phrase. It shows the beautiful and positive side of our tribe… I had to convert this phrase into music. The P.L.U.R track has been one of my biggest hits for 2 years already.
What projects are you involved in? (Or would love to experiment with?)
At the moment my main project is Phanatic, I prefer to focus on it because when I work on several projects together I feel that I’m getting lost, haha, yet I do have other musical projects that I’m working on in the last months. I’ve been silently working in the studio together with my good old friend Arik Maimone from the project Delirious, we will probably announce it very very soon with our first release on Spintwist Records.
Who do you think are the most cutting-edge newest sound makers in the scene? Who are your newest discoveries?
One of my faves at the moment is Dopamine Machine, a young guy from Israel with top quality production. I see a bright future for him.
Which artists remain the ultimate classics for you in the scene (or in music generally)?
No doubt Cosma is an ultimate classic for me. It seems like his last album would sound up to date in any period of time.
Scene at home?
It is very diverse, sometimes I listen to some Israeli music, sometimes electronic music like Avicii, Daft Punk (idols), and the list goes on.
Most memorable gigs, experiences?
2007-2008, XXXPerience Festival, Brazil, playing to 10,000 people for the first time… that feeling I felt back then was pure happiness, and it still happens these days by the way:)
What do you think about our scene (psychedelic gatherings and community) and their role in our lives, if any:)?
The psychedelic scene is currently at its best times ever, lots of new people from other genres are also open to psytrance music, who belived that one day psytrance would be played on huge stages as Ultra Music Festival/Tommorrowland, by names like Armin Van Burren, Paul Oakenfold and so on… It only helps the community grow to giant dimensions, and I see it as a big plus.
What are some of the greatest challenges you faced so far as an artist or producer? How about the moments that you felt were the greatest rewards so far?
Playing your own music & toughts, to differenet people, differenet cultures & countries… and see everybody having the same pure reaction… Happiness, smiles all over… For me, this is what I live for… It sounds extreme but this is my reality… the satisfaction I feel at the same moment cannot be described in words.
What are your other passions in life?
To be honest? Music only.
What are you working on at present? What are you looking forward to the most?
Lots of new music is in the oven at the moment, including originals and collabrations such as: Liquid Soul, Ticon, Avalon & Sonic Species, releasing my music through well known and respected labels as: Spintwist Records, Alteza Records, Nano Records & Iboga Records.
I am really looking forward to keep doing what I have been doing for the last 17 years, producing my own music with a huge passion, sharing stages with artists and musicians I appreciate, crossing the boundaries of myself… and getting the love and appreciation of the crowd all over the world. As I said before, this is what I live for.
