LAUGE & BABA GNOHM

The Prophet has caught up with Henrik Laugesen and Kalle Christensen so that you can read a bit about this Danish duo of LAUGE & BABA GNOHM while you are carried away into their arctic-lit Memories Mix on radiOzora.

– How does your story begin…?

– As the result of a few conversations through an online electronic music forum regarding a Baba Gnohm remix of Lauge’s track “Verbed Shower” back in 2008, we decided to meet up and try and start working on a track together. The track we started back then was the track “The Perfect Stranger” which later became our first release as “Lauge & Baba Gnohm”. The track was originally released on Blue Tunes Records in Germany and has since then been released on numerous compilations. Over the following years we traveled around playing gigs and produced more tracks in different styles within the chill out spectrum ending out in so far 5 EP’s, a full-length album, single releases and a huge amount of unreleased material.

– Who or what do you consider to be your greatest teachers, inspirations?

– Our greatest source of inspiration is not limited to one thing only; in fact it’s more like a combination of different things such as nature, music, movies etc.

To name a few musical influences that have made an impact on the way we sound, we can say that Jean-Michel Jarre and Pink Floyd are big sources of inspiration for us.

– Which one of your releases/tracks are the most characteristic of your sounds or stand the closest to you for some reason?

– Our track “Memories” from the Daybreak EP we made back in 2008/2009 pretty much laid the foundation of our “sound”, and even after all these years and many tracks later, we still believe that this is our strongest track till date. Listening to the melody and chords in this track just bring us back to lots of good memories from the earliest days of our project.

– What projects are you involved in? (Or would love to experiment with?)

– At the moment we are working on lots of different projects. To name a few of them we are collaborating with: Der Wäldlaufer, Stimulus Timbre and Feeding Spring. Some of these tracks will be released during 2017.

– Scene at home?

– When it comes to psychedelic chill-out, we have a very limited scene in Denmark with only a few smaller events each year.

– Most memorable gigs, experiences?

– Our most memorable gig took place at the “Shared Light” event in Kiev, Ukraine back in 2011. The crowd and organization was so great and we really had a great time. Ukraine is a really special place for us and we love going there.

– Musically speaking what’s still on your bucket list? If it wasn’t this, what would it be?

– Developing new techniques for live performances, creating and sharing soundbanks for different synthesizers and hopefully continue working on all of our unfinished tracks.

– What are your other passions in life?

– Other passions include food, traveling, reading etc.

– What are you working on at present? What are you looking forward to the most?

– Right now we are working on different collaborations, albums and ep’s. In 2017 we will be able to present some of these tracks as releases or included in live sets. We would also like to focus on making another Lauge & Baba Gnohm album.
